Here is a belated review of our Immersion Day for our Inquiry unit this term. We had so much fun exploring the four seasons, weather patterns and maps. Throughout the immersion, we asked wondering questions and discussed what we already knew about the seasons.
After exploring the different seasons, what is your favourite season and why?

ANZAC DAY

Today we spent some time remembering all the men and women who have participated in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations around the world, including the ANZACs (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps)who fought at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I. Tomorrow will be 100 years since the ANZACs landed at Gallipoli.

We made a poppy each and added it to our Prep A class wreath.
We also made a poppy in Art and added it to our garden.

Today, we also took part in an ANZAC day ceremony with the rest of our school community.

I wonder if your family does anything special on ANZAC day, or what ANZAC day means to you?

Lego Jar

How many pieces of Lego in the Lego jar?

This week, we will be estimating how many pieces of Lego there are in the jar. Every day I will give you another clue to help you guess how many pieces there are.
Today, we don't have a clue... We are each going to have a look at the jar and guess how many pieces there are. You have to tell me WHY you think there are that many!!

This Term, our Inquiry Unit is "What a Wonderful World."
We will be exploring the world around us using our 5 Senses.
This week we will be investigating our 5 senses, what they are and how we use them.
Tell us what you know about the 5 senses and what you use them for!

Term 2 Value... HOSPITALITY

This Term's value is Hospitality...

Have a look at the video and tell us how you can be a person who shows the value of Hospitality.
We will be sharing these responses later this week to see how you display this value in your family or community.

Learning the Letter Names AND Sounds...

It is very important that students know ALL letter names and sounds in both upper and lower case, before they are about to decode words to read.
As I have had a number of parents ask about their child learning the letters, I have attached files with the Victorian Modern Cursive Font letters that you can make into flashcards, or use as you wish.
Here are some ideas to help your child learn the letters and sounds:
  • Say the sound of a letter and have your child make it out of play dough.
  • Play "sound bingo". Make up game boards and have your child place a counter on the sound of the letter you pull out.
  • Say a sound and have your child write it.
  • Play "Memory" using a few letters you might be focusing on.
  • Use the flashcards to match the uppercase and lowercase letters to each other and then put the alphabet in order. Have your child point to each letter and say the sound.
  • Place the letters on the ground and have your child jump on the sound or letter you say.
  • Say a word (e.g. house) and have your child tell you the sound and letter that it begins with.
  • Choose a letter and hunt in magazines for pictures that begin with that letter.
What are some games/ways that you learn your letters and sounds?
It would be great to share your ideas with other parents and children!
